Saturday 23 July – Jackson Inlet
This morning we arrived in Jackson Inlet. This is a very remote spot and I was told that we are just the second expedition ship to visit here. It is amazing that after breaking thru ice floes you find large areas of open water with just a few ice bergs.
Our approach and departure from Jackson Inlet.
NG Resolution in Jackson Inlet
Looking back at the entrance to Jackson Inlet.
One of our trusty Guides, Brett. Armed with a 30 O 6 rifle.
Another guide scanning for for Polar Bears.
Heading South in Prince Regent after departing Jackson Inlet. Its an absolutely beautiful day. We are heading SW towards Bellot Straight. Less than an hour after I took this picture we were already in broken pack ice. Will will soon be in solid sheet ice, and testing the ice breaking capability of this ship. The Resolution is a Class 5 Ice Breaker and capable of breaking ice around 1 meter thick. The entrance to Bellot Straight may be blocked by an ice flow that is to the South but moving north. In the next few days we should have a pretty good idea whether we will make be able to continue thru the passage or have to turn around. Stay tuned…..
